Suryanarayan Temple, Domlur: This temple is fairly new and was built in 1995. It is one of the few temples in the world that has been dedicated to Lord Surya and Bangalore is indeed lucky to have this. It was the brain-child of Shri Patel Krishna Reddy, who was a freedom fighter and a patel of 32 villages. The temple was inaugurated by Sri Sri Sri Shivakumara Swamiji of Sree Siddaganga Mutt.

The style of architecture looks like a mix of Hoysala as well as the Dravidian Chola style of article. The 3.25 feet high idol of Lord Suryanarayana was brought to Bangalore all the way from Badrinath. The shrine for the Sun God is in the centre and directly opposite is the Ram Pattabhishekam idol with Lakshmana, Sita and Hanuman. You can start the circumambulation by visiting the Shiva Linga, Nagaraja, Panchamukhi Ganesha, Shani Devata, Vaishnavi and the Navargraha sannidhi.

The expanse of the temple is massive with trees growing within the temple. It is sparkling clean and has the most beautiful paintings on the wall. An annual fair is also held here on Rathasapthami Day when the 32 feet tall chariot is brought out and thousands of devotees pull it. It is tucked inside the Domlur locality and exudes calm. There is plenty of parking space too.

  1. Good article. It’s a pity that we don’t have enough temples like this in India which are dedicated to the vedic dieties representing the elements. I have been to this temple and it’s a hidden jewel indeed in Bangalore!
